WELLS ARCHITECTURE
Williamson Lake House, Lac Des Epinettes, Quebec, Canada
Project: New Lakeside Residence Location: Val-Des-Monts, Quebec, Canada Date: 2004 Cost: $300,000 (Canadian Dollars)
The design developed from an initial brief to provide a four season weekend retreat for a Ottawa based couple. The ability to accomodate family and friends visiting for extended stays was a key requirement. As such privacy and amenity, such as each bedroom having its own ensuite, was provided. The overiding philosophy of the design was "bringing together." From private bedrooms one is brought together in the large open plan living, dining and kitchen space. The form of the building directly relates to the geography of the site and is defined by two axis. One along a gully into which a walk-out basement is located and another along a ridge onto which one can step out of the main living space to enjoy the magificent view. This form re-inforces the idea of coming together. Especially evident where the two axis of the building intersect.
